Do you go through the roof or a manhole in the ceiling?
Every home is different, however for 90% of jobs we go through the roof. Our assessment is always based on the minimum disruption. After the job is completed your home will be left in its original state.
Are all homes able to install ceiling insulation?
Unfortunately some modern apartments are not built with an accessible roof cavity. Most houses can install ceiling insulation and cut their energy bills by up to 75%.
Which is the best kind of ceiling insulation?
At Ceiling Alert we always recommend to use the highest density insulation you can afford. The cheaper batts are still better than nothing, but the higher the R rating the better your results.
How long does insulation last?
The new insulation will last for at least 50 years, so you can rest assured that once you have removed the dust and blown in old insulation and replaced it, you won't have to ever think about it again.
What brands of insulation do you use?
Fletcher's Pink Batts : Locally made, cost efficient
Knauf Earthwool insulation: Imported . Premium brand.
Polyester Solutions: Asthma Foundation approved. Non irritant. More expensive but worth it if you are an allergy sufferer.
Is ceiling insulation a fire risk?
There is no risk of fire as a result from installing ceiling insulation. Fletchers Pink Batts and Knauf Earthwool are fire resistant to 550 degrees, and Polyester Solutions are rated to 250 degrees.
What is the R rating system for insulation?
R rating is a standardised system by which insulation batts are ranked in terms of thickness and insulating properties. It describes wall insulation as well as ceiling. At Ceiling Alert we use R4, R5 and R6 Batts. R6 provide the highest level of insulation.
